|I used to be outgoing. Strike up a conversation. Not any more.
Frumpy is the word. Curmudgeonly almost.
On my way home from Shanghai last week I found myself last in line to get on board, right behind another fellow who also was in no hurry.
I initiated the conversation.
Before long it drifted to what each was doing in Shanghai. He lived and worked in SH (not Chinese).
I told him what I did.
"Can you teach us how to do that? Can we talk on the plane?"
14 hours later he found me getting off the plane.
"Can we talk more? Will you call me?"
I emailed and set a time. Called and he was busy. We played phone tag and I got somewhat put out.
I have one sort of off day between KL and SH on this next trip. He booked me for a paid consulting gig with a view to working together long term if he likes my strategy and approach.
All because I struck up a conversation with a guy who was stuck with me in group 5 at the end of the line.
Who said you should never talk to strangers?
I should do it more.
