@Steve

My daughter is getting terrific engagement. I never did one way or the other. But then I don't know what is considered good engagement.

What is? You can answer that for sure.

Here's what I do know ... without all the following I had before I can now look at my Tweeter Feed and see updates that I care about. I couldn't do that before.

Of course engagements are desired ... or are they?

Wouldn't impressions also be worth keeping an eye on?

@Belew best engagement is WORK ... second best is leads and then you can look at growth such as klout scores,etc... of which yours is 55 ...

It's been over a week and I have lost 6.9%.

The first time I did this, I lost over 20%.

2nd time ... I lost 17%-ish.

This is the first time to 'purge' at my daughter's acct. She's down 16%.

Yes, they have.

And when I go to my feed I can see stuff I want to see and engage it that ... when I want to.

Question for you -... what is considered good engagement. 1, 2% more ...

do you go for engagement or impressions?

Okay, that was 2 questions.

I measure my Klout score ... to judge engagement on all platforms.

My engagement rate on Twitter is about 0.5% last 28 days in fact here some more info
Links Clicks 1.3K
retweets 2.6K
Likes 3.8K
Replies 289

Impressions ... now that's a can of worms, I used to generate over 10 millions impressions... now that is down to 3.1 million ... although my frequency of posting has changed based on my audience.

Think that's more than two answers

@Steve

How many of those link clicks, retweets and likes are automated?

I sometimes think the social media as a whole is automated... even those people that do post are almost automated in their approach...

I'm doing a chatity cycle ride later in the year... and i've decided to try and raise sponsorship only using my twitter account... two people have sponsored me so far... still early days.

I mentioned in another post... that I was using Twitter to raise funds for kids with cancer ... I've purposely only pushed this on Twitter as I wanted to test the platform out... and I'm pleased to say that so far in just a few weeks, I've raised over $250 ... more no doubt will come, as I continue to promote this.

@Steve

retweets, likes ... automated.

My bot likes what your bot retweeted.

Where's the value?

Oh, the $250.

Results are in ...

My daughter lost 25% of her followers.

I lost 11.3%.

Why the difference?

This is my 3rd time to massive unfollow.

It's her first.

Aren't you simply cutting down on active followers each time and leaving more and more of the dead wood?

I've been working hard to increase my Twitter following. I got up to 10,000 and kept going. I got problems with twitter jail and have learned to stay out of trouble. But here's the issue now.

I had 10,586 then it started to fall. If I followed 30 people I'd loose 35 followers. If I follow no one then I still loose. Yesterday I had 10,564 now I have 10,549. I did use Managefliter to get rid of some inactive followers. I'm actively tweeting. I just don't get it. One thing is because the US is in such a mess I have been tweeting content that is appreciated by 70% of Americans without over doing it. I'm an American; I can't help it.

I follow people from travel lists, since I write about travel.
I post each day in my area and provide good content.

Do people just unfollow active, engaged followers? I only unfollow if they put a nasty picture up.
I was getting a constant growth, but now no matter what I do I continue to loose a net of 5 per day.

Is this odd? What can I do to get it to start going the other way?

I may be wrong, but the whole follow / unfollow thing has run its course.

Twitter changed its policy and people are now unfollowing others they only followed to get a follow in the first place.

@FrugalTravelsNepal I am having a similar experience. My main account had 45k but I wanted to concentrate on a smaller account to get the followers over the 5k safety mark. I didn't touch the large account only to follow back anyone who had followed me.

I tweet automatically all the time and promote other authors.

It has been steadily dropping in numbers since. At present it is sitting at 43k.

Surely they all can't be dead wood?

If you provide content that interests your audience, then your follower numbers shouldn't drop ...
If they do drop isn't it just a case of those people not being interested in what you have to say...

just thoughts ... and it's great that Twitter is doing all of this

One would think that someone who got their first 10k or 45k would understand about content. I have to admit that I have given in to the political stuff sometimes, but what I tweet is about Nepal and humanitarian issues and travel.

I just started using this free website, WhoUnfollowedMe.com Now, suddenly, I got +30 followers overnight. I think I was following too many dead wood, but I'd been trying to keep it clean by using ManageFlitter.com which is the same kind of thing.

I even had a problem of my content not being posted on anyone's feed. I have 3 accounts and the other ones didn't get it. I am always tweeting from one feed to the other, so they should at least put it on those accounts. Also, when I tweet it doesn't even always go to my tweet list.

Bottom line: A lot of people are going to Instagram.
